Claims Officer

Role Purpose

Swan Re is seeking a motivated Claims Officer to join our growing team. The role involves managing reinsurance claims, coordinating with insurers, and reinsurers, ensuring timely follow-up and settlement of claims, maintaining accurate claims records, and supporting the efficient handling of the claims portfolio across multiple lines of business.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement activities within assigned areas with minimal supervision, ensuring full ownership of the claims file cycle.
  • Review claims reports and follow up with insurers on outstanding claims to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain and update claims documentation and records for proper tracking and reference purposes.
  • Follow up with insurers to obtain missing claims documentation required for settlement purposes.
  • Verify the existence of placements upon loss notification to ensure alignment with policy terms.
  • Prepare correspondence with insurers and reinsurers to facilitate communication and request required documentation and information.
  • Generate closings (e.g., debit and credit notes) for the assigned territory, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Perform claims data entry into the system for tracking and reference purposes.
  • Coordinate with Finance to collect cash call payments related to claims and to support settlements, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Ensure completion of the administrative components of claim files, including data entry and generation of closings.
  • Coordinate with insurers and reinsurers to complete the file cycle, ensuring follow-ups are conducted within established time frames.
  • Review claims reports on a periodic basis to keep them accurate and up to date.

Job Requirements and Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or an equivalent field.
  • Professional certification in insurance or claims (e.g., ACII, CPCU) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of experience in a claims handling role, preferably within the insurance, reinsurance broker, or financial services industries, including prior exposure to file supervision or training of junior staff.
  • Solid technical knowledge of claims file handling and the claims management system.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with insurers, reinsurers, and internal departments.
  • Strong negotiation skills to support resolution of complex or disputed claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while guiding and supervising junior officers.
